If there was any justice in the pop culture world, Nina Dobrev would hear her name mentioned alongside Claire Danes, Julianne Margulies and the rest of The Emmy nominees for Best Actress in a Drama because her work throughout the fourth season of The Vampire Diaries is more than worthy of acting’s biggest honor.
Not only did Dobrev continue to breathe life into two distinctly different characters, but because Elena Gilbert spent season four in so many different mental states, it’s more like she created two dozen distinctly different characters! Although the one constant in each of these incarnations was her ability to ground heightened drama in a powerfully emotional place.

She was impressed by Elena’s knowledge. Again. “I have to question everything before I do it. I am a servant after all. I haven’t gotten my Archangel title yet.” The angel got comfortable again. “The veil? Qetsiyah? Bonnie?” She questioned. “What do they have all in common, Elena?”
“The veil is the other side for… supernatural entities, I believe. Kol described it as hell, but maybe that was his afterlife. I don’t know how it works.” Elena informed quietly. “Qetsiyah and Bonnie were powerful witches. Qetsiyah being the first, I think, as well as the most powerful and Bonnie being a direct descendant of hers….” Elena hummed softly, going over the information several times in her mind in an low-profile manner. None of these facts surprised Elena, after all they’d seen. After all the’d met, including the original vampires. “You’re a helpful celestial being. Thank you….but….Jeremy, well, he’s outside the veil right now. If you don’t know what the veil is, how do you know how to revive him?”
“There are a lot of… rules, it seems.”
“Nope!” Elena called back from an undetermined direction, her infectious laugh resounding in the distance. “Why should I? Don’t you wanna chase me? Just because we’re vampires doesn’t mean we can’t have fun.”
The girl was right. And Stefan rolled his eyes as his smile molded back into his features. “Of course I do…” He mumbled and began to chase after her again. Once he spotted her, he smirked and called out “But I don’t want to have to win by totally catching you now. I have to give you a bigger head start, don’t I?”
“You always wanna chase me. That’s why. Remember?” Elena smirked and waved at him. She returned his smile and smoothed back her wavy tresses that hadn’t been tended to for days. “Go on. Capture me. I dare you. You better have my new Diary, by the way.”
“If not, you’re in big trouble. I bet I can chase you too.”
